Announcements From Our Interim Pastor, Deacon Andrew Lacovara 1/9/22

Dear Corpus Christi,

It is with grief but faith in God that I share the news that long-time parishioner and neighbor Shirley Allen passed to her eternal reward last week. Shirley was a remarkable woman and a continual presence at the weekday Masses until she moved to be near family several years back.

The symbols used at Catholic funerals mirror those used at our baptism: the Paschal candle, the white garment, holy water, evidence that our baptism prepares us for a life changed, not ended, by death. As we come this Sunday to celebrate the baptism of the Lord, perhaps we can reflect on the trajectory on which this essential sacrament should send us.  For parents of young children, speak to them about what you recall about their baptism. For those of us older, and fortunate to have parents still with us, maybe reach out to them (or even to godparents) to thank them for the gifts of entering into the Christian family, grateful that our own lives are changed, destined for mission in this world and something beautiful beyond.

Let perpetual life shine upon Shirley, and bring comfort to her family and friends.

Andrew
