Dear Corpus Christi,
There are many lessons to learn from the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Among them is that racism, and any discrimination, ignores the inherent, God-given dignity of a person. It is a sin.
Further, speaking (and speaking loudly and consistently) counter-cultural truths is not done without risk, but it is the duty of every Christian, every person of faith. On this weekend when we commemorate the moral courage of one of the best persons this country has brought forth, may we recognize the times when we, as individuals and as a Church, have diminished that human dignity in others.
May we commit to the anti-racism that is incumbent on those trying to live the Gospel.
