Dear Corpus Christi,
As mentioned last week, former parishioner Deacon Fritz Bauerschmidt returns this weekend to perform two very diaconal roles, to preach and to baptize. Fritz’s graceful synthesis of intellect and faith (and the implicit statement that those need not be in opposition) was very important to my own discernment of my vocation, something for which I will always be grateful.
As faith formation begins this weekend, and as we have the joy of witnessing another baptism at this Sunday’s liturgy, we should be reminded of both the solemn responsibility and the joyful opportunity of sharing our faith, as the baptismal rite says, “by word and example” with all with whom we come in contact, not least the young and discerning among us.
