Dear Sisters and Brothers,
This Sunday marks not only the parish’s feast day, but also the beginning of the Year of the Eucharist in the Archdiocese. It is my hope that we will include brief Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (and, perhaps Benediction) at Mass.
While this was never part of my devotional life as a child (or even for most of my adult life), it has, in the last few years, been an often-powerful experience. Even as the Eucharist is meant to be consumed, it can be profound to contemplate the presence of Christ in the Eucharist during Exposition or Adoration.
One phrase that has often recurred often during such experiences is “For me?” The beauty and generosity of Jesus’ gift of himself in the Eucharist is so far beyond my worthiness of His presence, all that I am left with is a sort of incredulous gratitude.
I also hope as the Year of the Eucharist proceeds, there may be parishioners willing to share their own experiences of and reflections on Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. These could be conveyed in writing or by living voice at the end of the Sunday liturgy. Please do reach out to me if you feel moved to offer your thoughts.
I look forward to being with you in the awesome, particular presence of the Lord again soon.
Andrew
