In April, Archbishop James Gibbons purchased a piece of property at the corner of Townsend Street (now Lafayette Ave.) and Oliver Street (Mount Royal Ave.) with the purpose of organizing a new parish. The congregation met in a rented third-floor room at Bolton and Dolphin Streets.
