The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults become Christians in the Catholic Church through the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. It also serves as a means for those Christians who have been baptized in other traditions to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church and to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist.

At Corpus Christi the preparation to receive these sacraments involves weekly meetings for prayer, shared reflection on Scripture and instruction in the Catholic faith. These typically run from September to May. The initial meetings are for the purpose of inquiry and casual inquirers are welcome. As the time of preparation progresses, various rites celebrated at the liturgy mark the inquirer’s deepening commitment. For those who believe that God is calling them to the sacraments of initiation, the season of Lent serves as a final period of preparation, culminating in the reception of the sacraments at Easter.
