Dear Sisters and Brothers,
This weekend, and specifically on Monday, our nation will celebrate our independence from England. Because it happened 246 years ago, we sometimes take our independence for granted. Yet many suffered and died in order that we might be a nation free from foreign rule. So, we need to remember all those brave souls who fought so hard. We need to ask God to give us all that we need to be faithful to our “Declaration of Independence” and our “Constitution”. In fact, maybe this would be a good time for all of us to reread both documents. And we also need to be careful not to read into these documents our own prejudices and our own political leanings. May God continue to journey with us during these trying times!
