Dear Sisters and Brothers,
What a delight to be one of the recipients of Fr. Patrick’s
‘backpack blessing’ last Sunday for those beginning a new
school year.
We ranged from young elementary school children to graduate
students. It has also been a bit of balm to see the neighborhood
enlivened by a new cohort of MICA students. As I mention at
Mass, it is my hope that Corpus Christi might be for some of
them, beyond an architectural jewel to be sketched and painted,
an inviting community of faith where they will feel welcome to
worship and grow in their faith. The recent Gospel of Mark
passage about the mustard seed comes to mind. For these
students, as well as for many of us, this time of transition into a
new academic year can be a period of discernment about what
great things may be growing from humble beginnings through
the grace of God.
